PRECAUTIONS
Check out the Do’s and Don’ts for using Fly Ash Bricks
DO’S
1. Check Quality Before Use : Inspect the bricks for uniform shape, size, and soundness before use. Ensure they are not broken or cracked.
2. Cure Properly Before Construction : Always water-cure fly ash bricks for at least 7 days before masonry work to attain full strength and minimize efflorescence.
3. Use Good Quality Mortar : Apply cement-sand mortar in 1:6 ratio (or as per structural design). Ensure proper mixing and consistency.
4. Soak the Bricks Before Use : Slightly moisten the bricks before laying (do not over-soak) to improve mortar adhesion.
5. Ensure Proper Bonding : Maintain correct joint thickness (10–12 mm) and proper alignment during bricklaying to achieve strong bonding.
6. Handle Carefully During Transport & Unloading : Stack bricks on level ground (not more than 1 m height) to prevent breakage or edge damage.
7. Allow Sufficient Curing Time After Masonry : After wall construction, cure for at least 7 days to enhance strength and reduce surface cracks.
8. Store in a Dry Place : Keep bricks under shade on a raised platform to avoid direct contact with soil and rainwater.
9. Follow Structural Engineer’s Guidance : Always follow recommended load-bearing limits and construction practices specified by your site engineer.
DONT’S
1. Do Not Use Uncured or Green Bricks : Using freshly made, uncured bricks will result in poor strength and wall cracks.
2. Do Not Use Excess Water in Mortar : Too much water weakens mortar bonding and causes efflorescence.
3. Do Not Mix Fly Ash Bricks with Clay Bricks in the Same Wall : They have different physical properties, leading to uneven settlement and cracking.
4. Do Not Drop Bricks from Height : Handle manually to avoid breakage, especially during unloading and stacking.
5. Do Not Ignore Efflorescence or White Deposits : If observed, clean gently and apply suitable waterproof coating after curing.
6. Do Not Apply Plaster Immediately Wait for at least 10–15 days after wall curing before plastering to allow settlement.
7. Do Not Use Damaged or Cracked Bricks in Load-Bearing Walls: Discard damaged pieces; they may compromise wall strength.
8. Do Not Store Bricks in Open Rainy Conditions : Waterlogging affects quality and strength; always store under cover.
9. Do Not Skip Regular Site Supervision : Ensure all work is supervised by a qualified engineer or mason trained in using fly ash bricks.
